The Road Book's Amstel Gold Race 2024 Preview

The Road Book's Amstel Gold Race 2024 Preview
The Flemish cobbles have brought much entertainment, even if it was, quite simply, the Mathieu van der Poel show. With those little mean squares of stone now behind the peloton, we move on to the Ardennes Classics with The Amstel Gold Race. The youngest of the classics, born only in 1966, but undeniably one of the most entertaining, the cobbles specialists and sprinters make way for the puncheurs and climbers as we hit the steep slopes which characterise the Ardennes races. Even if this one does take place in the Limburg province of the Netherlands. Continue reading

The Road Book's Milan-Sanremo 2024 Preview

The Road Book's Milan-Sanremo 2024 Preview

With the brutality of Pogačar’s 80km solo ride at Strade Bianche, and Jumbo Lease-a-Bike’s somewhat alarming domination of not only the Opening Weekend, but also of Paris-Nice and Tirreno-Adriatico, 2024’s Spring calendar has already been one for the ages. Whats more, we’ve not even hit the Monuments yet! On Saturday however, that will all change with the 115th edition of Milan-Sanremo, a race which rewards patient watching, and patient riding.

Tirreno-Adriatico 2024: extract from 'Between Roglič and My Heart’s Place' by Brian Nygaard

Tirreno-Adriatico 2024: extract from 'Between Roglič and My Heart’s Place' by Brian Nygaard

If Strade Bianche has done nothing but whet your appetite for more racing, then there is Tirreno-Adriatico to look forwards to on Monday the 4th of March.

The ‘Race of the Two Seas’ is a classic in every sense of the word, and Primož Roglič’s decisive victory last year prompted Road Book contributor Brian Nygaard to write a brilliantly eloquent essay on why Tirreno-Adriatico holds a special place in his heart. This extract from ‘Between Roglič and My Heart’s Place’ from The Road Book 2023, beautifully captures the lazy nostalgia of one of Italy’s best loved races.

The Road Book's Strade Bianche Preview
The first weekend of march sees the first of the Italian Classics, and one of the most hotly anticipated races of the season in Strade Bianche. A young race in the cycling scheme of things, brought into existence in 2007 and gaining WorldTour status in 2017, but quickly becoming a staple of the calendar for riders and fans alike thanks to its unbeatable backdrop and the retro style of racing its unique course encourages. 'Paradigm Shift: What the 2022 Tour of Flanders Tells Us About Cycling' By Ed Pickering

This year, our multi-Faceted editor, Ned Boulting, will be attending The Tour of Flanders as a fan, alongside firm friend of The Road Book and former British Road Racing Champion David Millar. They will be hosting an evening with Sports Tours International, and it’s got us thinking ahead to those famous Flemish cobbles.

We've dug out a little preview of a fantastic piece that Ed Pickering (Rouleur Editor) wrote for us in 2022, discussing that year's Tour of Flanders, and what it might tell us about shifting paradigms in cycling.

February 2024 Road Racing Preview
The second month of 2024 has arrived, with more cycling to sweep away the January blues, including the only Middle Eastern WorldTour race, and the Opening Weekend of the classics. Raced on wildly differing terrain at wildly differing temperatures and with wildly different temperaments, February is a month of contrasts, but fittingly we’re here to break it all down with our characteristic love and affection.
